The Victoria Royals would like to congratulate Igor Martynov on being named to Team Belarus’ National Junior Team for the 2018 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.

The annual tournament starts today and will conclude on January 5, 2018 in Buffalo, NY. Belarus begins the tournament this morning with a match-up versus Sweden.

The 5-11, 187 lb rookie forward, has tallied 25 points (12g-13a) to go along with 22 penalty minutes in 34 games for the Royals this season. The 1999-born skater was selected by Victoria in the first round, 30th overall, in the 2017 CHL Import Draft.

Last year, the Krasnoye, Belarus native helped his country capture the gold medal, and promotion to this year’s World Juniors, with a 4-0-1 record at the 2017 World Junior Hockey Championship Division 1 Tournament in Bremerhaven, Germany. Martynov tallied two assists in five contests for Belarus.

The 18-year-old spent the 2016-17 season split between the Belarus Under-20 club of the Belarus Extra League and the Belarus Under-18 team in the Belarus High League. Martynov recorded 11 points (4g-7a) through 20 games with the under-20 club, and added six points (3g-3a) in six games for Belarus’ Under-18 team.

Victoria returns to action from the holiday break, with a pair of home games against the Prince George Cougars tomorrow and Thursday. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. for both contests.
