Royals fall short against Kelowna Rockets
The Victoria Royals were defeated 6-4 by the Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday night at Prospera Place.
In rough contest, both teams combined for a total of 72 minutes in penalties with the Royals and Rockets collecting 21 and 23 minutes respectively in the first period alone.
The Rockets were led offensively by Kole Lind with four points (1g-3a) and Calvin Thurkauf who scored two goals, including the game winner. Kelowna’s other markers were registered by Rodney Southam with two goals of his own and Tomas Soustal.
Victoria’s Matthew Phillips and Dante Hannoun each connected on the man-advantage. The Royals’ Ryan Peckford opened the game’s scoring and Jared Dmytriw added a late tally.
The Royals went 2/7=28.6% on the powerplay and have now recorded goals in six straight games with the man-advantage. During that span Victoria has earned a 13/37=35.1% mark.
The Rockets held a 3/8=37.5% mark on the powerplay.
Victoria netminder Griffen Outhouse made 18 saves on 23 shots. Rookie Dylan Myskiw came in for relief to start the third period and stopped 10 of the 11 pucks he faced. The Rockets started Michael Herringer who made 25 saves on the 29 shots directed his way.
The Royals face the Tri-City Americans on Friday in Kennewick, WA before they wrap up their four-game road trip with a match-up against the Everett Silvertips on Saturday night. Both contests are scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
