Mixing it Up: Victoria went with a mixture of youth and experience in their line-up as they dressed 11 rookies and nine veterans. The Giants countered with nine rookies and 11 veterans.
Newest Royal: Tonight’s contest marked the first game in a Royals’ jersey for forward Brandon Cutler. The Spruce Grove, AB native was acquired in a trade with the Red Deer Rebels earlier this week.
Pre-Season Debuts: Royals’ 20-year-old’s Dante Hannoun and Ralph Jarratt, along with rookie netminder Connor Martin played in their first game of the pre-season tonight. Hannoun recorded two assists, while Martin stopped 12 of 13 shots.
Scratches: Victoria sat out 20-year-old Griffen Outhouse along with veterans Matthew Smith, Igor Martynov, Dino Kambeitz, Dean McNabb and rookie Kaden Reinders.
NHL Camps: Victoria forwards Matthew Phillips (Calgary Flames), Tanner Kaspick (St. Louis Blues) and Lane Zablocki (Detroit Red Wings), along with defenceman Scott Walford (Montreal Canadiens) have all been left off of the team’s pre-season roster as they are attending NHL training camps.
