Round-by-round improvement saw the UVic Vikes men’s golf team earn a third-place finish at the Coastal Collegiate Classic in Salem, Oregon in the tournament that took place from Oct. 8-10.
Rounds of 296, 292 and 290 as a team saw the Vikes climb up the standings from fifth after the first round to fourth after the second all the way to their eventual finishing spot of third overall in the tournament.
Ending the tournament eight shots back of Rocky Mountain College for second place and 17 shots ahead of Corban University in fourth, the Vikes were firmly entrenched in the final podium position.
Lawren Rowe and Mike Griffin both put up impressive numbers throughout the tournament. Rowe shot rounds of 72, 69 and 72 to finish in a tie for fourth place, while Griffin ended up just two shots back of Rowe at 215 strokes to wind up in sixth place.
Newcomer to the team Josh Miller finished in a tie for 15th with a tournament total of 222. Jacob Hayesand Bruce Tomie rounded out the scoring for the Vikes with finishes of 28th and 38th respectively.
Next up for the Vikes is a return to Victoria as the team prepared for the annual Vikes Shootout, taking place from Oct. 16-17.
