Esquimalt’s Archie Browning curling rink will be filled with lots of colour, sparkle, and hard-hitting derby action Saturday night (July 7th), as two mash-up teams— The Glitter Bombs and the Rainbow Riders— face off in the league’s annual Pride Bout.

The Eves of Destruction actively support the LGBTQ2IA+ community and Pride Week. The league does not tolerate discrimination and promotes acceptance, as outlined in our league gender policy which states:

The Eves of Destruction (EoD) recognizes that gender is a construct and is not decided by the physical or chemical makeup of our bodies…We recognize that identifying as transgender, intersex, and/or gender-expansive is not in any way related to an individual’s eligibility for participating in EoD roller derby as a league member or volunteer. EoD makes every attempt to provide as open and inclusive a space as possible. Transphobia is considered harassment and will not be tolerated in EoD.

The headlining matchup will be at 7:30 pm and will showcase our all-star Eves’ A-Team versus the GVRD Anarchy Angels in a WFTDA Sanctioned Game. When these teams last met, the Angels won by only 11 points. Our A-Team has been training harder than ever and are ready for whatever the Angels have in store!

There will also be plenty of entertainment off the track at the event. Back by popular demand are the King Fling drag show, half-time performers. As always, the bout will include a 50/50 raffle, fundraising raffle for Rock the Shores tickets, merch, popcorn, cold beer & cider, and delicious local Empire Donuts.

Tickets for the July 7th doubleheader are available online at ticketrocket.co, and in person at Hive Hair, Esquimalt Rec Centre, Studio 4, Logan’s Pub and at the door.

All the action takes place at Esquimalt’s Archie Browning Arena. The event is family friendly (kids under 10 are free!), and includes a beer garden, half-time contest, 50-50 draw and a vendor village. Doors open at 5, first whistle is at 5:30.

The Eves of Destruction Roller Derby League was formed in 2006, has over 80 players, refs, and officials, and features five teams. Adult members play for The A-Team, The Belles of the Brawl, The Margarita Villains and The Hard Cores. The league also has a gender-inclusive junior team, The Rotten Apples, made up of players aged 10-18.
