The fourth and final weekend of the 2017 season is ahead for a UVic Vikes women’s field hockey team that has already secured a second place finish in the Canada West conference.

Due to a restructuring around the U SPORTS National Championship format, the Vikes season will come to an end this weekend after they play a pair of home games against the Calgary Dinos.

With no more championship tournament and instead the winner of Canada West and the winner of the OUA meeting in a best-of-three series, the Vikes fate was sealed two weekends ago when the team dropped two games in a row to the UBC T-Birds.

The Vikes will play their final two games against Calgary on Saturday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 22 with both matches beginning at 11 a.m.

The game on Sunday will mark the final game in the Vikes career of goalie Larissa Piva, who has been apart of four U SPORTS medal winning teams in her time at UVic.

When these teams met earlier in the season in Calgary, the Vikes were able to pick up both wins by scores of 1-0.

Last Time Out

A tough weekend in Vancouver saw the Vikes drop two games to UBC by scores of 2-0 and 2-1 two weekends ago. First-year Vike Anna Mollenhauer scored the first Canada West goal of her career in the loss.

The Dinos were also bested by the T-Birds in their last two games, losing by scores of 3-1 and 6-0 in Vancouver

By the Numbers

18: The Vikes come into the game having won the past 18 meetings between the two teams.
