GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon
The GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon, formerly the Royal Victoria Marathon started in 1980 and has been run each year since. Additions to the weekend are the very popular half-marathon distance, 8K and a kid's run.
The race weekend takes place on the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, which typically falls on the first Sunday of October. The race expo and press events start on Friday and run through the weekend.
Although the marathon is the marquee event of the weekend, the half-marathon is the most popular, with over 3,200 participants in 2015, while there were 1200 in the marathon and 2,351 in the 8K.
The races start next to the harbour in downtown beside the Legislature and winds its way through the core of downtown and into the neighbourhoods of Fairfield, James Bay, Uplands and Oak Bay. The three races pass through Beacon Hill Park as well as along the Dallas Road and Beach Drive waterfronts, providing spectacular vistas along the way.
