August has been a successful month for the Pacific Cycling Centre. Its young athletes, coached by Houshang Amiri, have made the podium several times.
At the beginning of the month, NW Juniors Classic Race in Elmer, WA Callie Swan for won all of the U19 races. She notched victories in the time trial, criterium, the road race and the GC.
Chris MacLeod won the U19 road race and was 5th overall in the GC. Also in the U19, James Grant was 4th in the road race and 6th in the GC. In U17, Mark Grant was 6th in the road race and in the top 10 in GC. “It was a very successful weekend and all of the PCC riders rode very strong and gained a great deal of experience,” said Head Coach, Houshang Amiri.
The weekend of August 14 – 16 saw Coach Amiri accompany three riders from the Dr. Walker Sports Chiropractic Team to the Northwest Track Cycling Championships in Redmond, WA. Held at the Marymoor Velodrome, the event was a great success and good experience for the riders.
Chris MacLeod, Callie Swan and Alexandra Grant all did well with Chris reaching the podium four times and Callie twice. Chris won the Junior men’s 1 and 3 kilometre races as well as the 4 x 5 points and the scratch races. Callie won the Junior women’s 500 and 2 kilometre race.
“It was a good experience for them all. It was Callie’s first track race and good training for the upcoming BC Provincial Track Championships and the Canadian Track Nationals in October,” said Coach Amiri.
