With sunny skies forecast for the weekend, it looks as if PISE’s 9th Annual Family Sport & Recreation Festival will once again be a major attraction for kids of all ages. The event on Saturday features over 30 activities for the family to try, including rock climbing, tennis, obstacle courses, adapted sports and golf.
The free event is a collaboration with the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame, whose annual induction dinner honours many of Victoria’s finest sportsmen and women. The sports festival, from 11 am – 3 pm, will take over the Alex Campbell field and the track and training zone outside, as well as the gym at PISE, which is located on Camosun College’s Interurban Campus.
“The festival is a great way of introducing families to a wide variety of options for keeping kids engaged in healthy activities without spending a dime,” says Amy Corkery, Event Coordinator. “Our goal is to not only give kids the chance to try out a sample of different sports and activities, but hopefully excite them about what they might want to participate in, long term. Plus, it is incredibly fun!”
There will be some amazing prizes including a free raffle from the Hall of Fame with a chance for a family of four to win dinner and tickets to the August 7 HarbourCats game. The Hall of Fame will also be selling tickets to the game at their booth.
“We are excited to be supporting the Family Sport & Recreation Festival for the ninth year,” says Robert Hope, Festival Chair for the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame. “This is a great community event and we are grateful for the support of partners such as PISE, Golf for Kids and the Victoria Foundation.”
There will be local food trucks serving their delicious creations when the kids need some fuel before heading into their next activity!
PISE is located at the Camosun campus at 4371 Interurban Road, and parking is free for the day.
