Pacific FC (PFC) will join Nanaimo United FC, Saturday, Oct. 20 for an all-day soccer workshop, the first stop of the club’s 20 For 2019 series that will visit twenty Vancouver Island communities leading up to the club’s inaugural season.

Saturday’s workshop will be led by PFC assistant coach James Merriman, a well-known fixture in Nanaimo’s soccer community. Merriman will bring his coaching expertise to Beban Park for Saturday’s event, and will be assisted by Nanaimo United FC players over the course of the day.

“It’s always a pleasure to return to the mid-island and to interact with the fantastic soccer community that is established there,” said Merriman. “This is the first of many exciting events we’ll be facilitating across the island. Personally, kicking it all off in Nanaimo is icing on the cake for me.”

Merriman will be joined at the workshops by PFC president Josh Simpson and Hearthstone Artisan Bakery, who will provide samples of their Nanaimo Bars in a taste-off to determine the top variation of the treat. The PFC group will also head to Wild Play Element Park Nanaimo later in the afternoon.

“We’ve received great support from both Nanaimo United, Artisan bakery and Wild Play,” added Merriman. “It’s going to be a fun day and we’re looking forward to chatting with attending folks interested in finding out what our club is all about.”

PFC’s 20 For 2019 campaign will engage a number of communities across Vancouver Island, with workshops planned as far north as Port Hardy.

Later in the day, the PFC group will head to Lighthouse Brewery & Bistro from 5:00-7:00 p.m. for the club’s second Pub Night. Merriman and Simpson will be on hand to chat soccer with local supporters.
