The Victoria HarbourCats and Christie-Phoenix Insurance Victoria Run Series are putting on a foot race to take place at Royal Athletic Park, the home of the HarbourCats West Coast League baseball team.

“It will be fun,” shared Managing Partner of the HarbourCats, Jim Swanson. “It will be a unique race experience as runners will get to enjoy taking in part of the baseball field, where the HarbourCats practice and play.”

The race will happen on Saturday, June 23 at 1:00 pm. Due to space limitations, a cap system is in place. Organizer Christopher Kelsall and Swanson are recommending early registration, to avoid disappointment.

A kid’s race will also be available for age 12 and under. The distance will be approximately 1.5K.

Included in the race registration fees will be access to the game later that day, souvenir race shirts, medals for top-3 male and female and draw prizes.

“The nice thing about putting on the race at R.A.P. for everyone will be the baseball afterwards,” shared Kelsall, the series director. “After a good, hard race it is rewarding to sit back and relax and the HarbourCats do such a great job with refreshments, food trucks and vendors. It’s a great atmosphere.”

The 5K race will feature approximately seven laps of R.A.P. using the entire field and a route that cuts across the field and around the HarbourCats outfield fence.

The Victoria HarbourCats are the most successful franchise in West Coast League history at the gate. They are one of the most successful all-time during the regular season as they have set league records for total wins, consecutive wins as well as having the highest attendance in the WCL each year as well as the regular season all-time attendance record.

The Christie-Phoenix Insurance Victoria Run Series (also known as “track” series) is entering its ninth year. The series offers racing opportunities for all abilities and all ages. The series has offered the only opportunity on Vancouver Island to race on the track.

More details will follow; however, early registration is open for the two race distances.
