The Mount Douglas Rams won the Ron Greene Cup on Tuesday in the lower island tournament that took place at Belmont Secondary, against the Bulldogs. The Rams won by scores of 25-23, 21-25 and 15-12.
There were six quadruple-A teams in the tournament of which the Bulldogs were ranked number one in the province failed to win as they were short two regular players.
Up against the other five quadruple-A teams, the No. 1-provincially ranked Bulldogs (who will likely lose that seed now) were still minus two starters as the Rams pulled off a second straight win over Belmont.
The Rams get to host the Island championships on November 18-19.
Mount Douglas swept their games against the Reynold Road Runners, while Claremont did the same versus Spectrum. The Rams went on to defeat Oak Bay High by sets of 25-23, 23-25, 15-9, during the semis. The Bulldogs in turn swept Claremont 25-14, 25-13.
Oak Bay High finished in third place after defeating Claremont. Reynolds bested Spectrum 25-22, 25-21 during the fifth game.
