The University of Victoria men’s golf team finished in second place at the NAIA Preview tournament in Mesa, AZ. held at the Las Sendas golf course on Nov. 5. This will be the same course that will host the NAIA Men’s National Tournament in May of 2019.
The Vikes finished second out of eight teams, shooting a team score of 606 over two rounds. Robin Conlan was the leader amongst the Vikes, scoring a 69(-2) in his opening round and finished the tournament with a second round score of 76 (+5)
“Robin was a real bright spot for us today,” said Vikes head coach Justin Clews. ” He shot a great opening round to start the day and was playing well for the majority of his second round as well before having a bit of trouble near the end.”
Josh Miller finished eighth in the individual standings shooting a 150 (+8). After scoring an opening round of 77(+6), Miller improved by four strokes in his second round to bring himself up seven spots in the standings.
“It was a challenging desert course with very small greens,” commented Clews. ” I was pleased with how our guys performed today but we really need to improve our team scoring average if we want to compete.”
The Vikes will have a quick turnaround, as they will take part in the Desert Showdown at the Verrado Golf Club in Buckeye, AZ on Nov. 6.
