The Kerry Park Islanders can smell blood in the water. The Mill Bay-based team is now tied for second place in the South Division of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League with the Saanich Braves. The tiebreaker goes to the team with the most wins; however, Kerry Park is positioned in third place in the league standings. It is likely due to having played one more game (24 to 23) than the Braves. The rule applies to the final regular season standings.

Saturday, the Islanders defeated the Braves 4-2. Sunday, they took out the Oceanside Generals by the score of 6-1.

Tanner Tiel led the way for the Islanders with a pair of goals and one assist. Isaak Leik scored once and picked up two assists. There were five different Islanders scorers.

Tiel opened the scoring at 15:49 of the first period on the powerplay. Brandon McClintick and Dawson Blanchette assisted on the play. Brandon Hannibal was off for two minutes for roughing at the time.

It was the only goal of the first period. The Islanders scored four unanswered during the second period with Evan Easton scoring the winner at 2:53 while on the man advantage. McClintick and Tiel assisted. Oscar Burgess was off for tripping.

The teams exchanged goals in the third period with Will Norman scoring the lone goal for the Generals at 4:56.

James Brendeland took the loss in goal for the Generals. He stopped 34 of 40 Islanders shots fired his way. Rett Rook was coming off of a win the previous night against Saanich. He stopped 33 of 34 shots for the win.

The powerplays went 0/7 for Oceanside, while the Islanders scored twice on their eight opportunities (2/8). The Islanders have an opportunity to gain sole possession of second place on Wednesday when they visit the Westshore Wolves at The Q Centre in Colwood.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
