The Westshore Rebels will be hosting their first ever tailgate party and ‘March to Nanaimo’ on Saturday, September 19th where they are taking on their bitter rival franchise, the Vancouver Island Raiders of Nanaimo, formerly of Victoria.
During their first game of the season the Rebels put up a fantastic battle and the score could have gone either way, however, the Raiders narrowly prevailed in a 23-21 win over the Rebels. The Rebels have not beaten the Raiders since the team left Victoria in 2005 and they want to make this game special for the players and fans. The Rebels feel that they are ready to make it happen and just need a little extra fan support, while on the road.
The Rebels are hoping Greater Victoria fans will join the team in Nanaimo and for everyone to wear a Rebels jersey or to dress in red for the game; to create a sea of red. On game day, the Rebels will have a tailgate parting from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
It takes a community of support at the BC Junior Football level. Director of Media & Community Relations Jason Sperling said, “We will are encouraging fans to bring their BBQ’s, red shirts, voices and use the hashtag #rebelsun1te on social media. We have a limited amount of tickets for the game for $10 available.”
