Huskies await Vikes in quarter-final match at Canada West select six

Vikes Communications

For the second weekend in a row the Vikes women's soccer team is in a win or go home situation.

After winning their first round playoff game, the team now travels to Langley to play in the Canada West select six tournament.  First up for the Vikes is a game against the Saskatchewan Huskies on November 3 at 7:00 p.m.

The Vikes and Huskies haven't met yet in 2016, the last time these teams played each other was in 2015 with UVic picking up a 2-0 win.

A win and the Vikes move on to a semifinal game against the No. 2 ranked team in the country and hosts of the tournament, Trinity Western Spartans.

A loss to the Huskies would see the Vikes season come to an end.

The bronze medal game is scheduled for November 6 at 1:00 p.m., while the Canada West championship game will start at 4:00 p.m.

Last Time Out

The Vikes punched their ticket to the select six in dramatic fashion. A three-goal outburst in the second half was almost erased but the Vikes managed to just hold on and defeat the University of Fraser Valley Cascades by a score of 3-2. Lindsay MachinRachel Baird and Mia Gunter all scored in the contest.

Saskatchewan, the second seed in the Prairie division, qualified for the select six with a win over the Regina Cougars. The Huskies won the game 2-0 on goals scored by Taneil Gay and Jackson Wiegers.

By the Numbers

2: The Vikes know how to rise to the occasion. Prior to their playoff win against UFV the Vikes had only scored more than two goals in a game twice this season.

2012: The last time the Vikes qualified for the CIS Championship tournament.

1: The number of times Saskatchewan lost in games they played on the road this season.

Coach's Take
Tracy David, Vikes head coach

"Regardless of whether you want to address it or not everyone knows that the pressure is there. We don't have to talk about it but it's still there.  Nothing changes, your warm up doesn't change, the way you play isn't going to change and so if you can relax a little bit and take comfort in those things then you can deal with the pressure.
