The hot and cold Westshore Wolves blasted 37 shots at the Kerry Park Islanders’ net Wednesday night. The effort was good enough to keep distance between themselves and the Islanders in the standings. The Wolves won, after losing the previous two to the Saanich Braves and the Oceanside Generals, respectively.
At 10:44 of the first, 6’4” Hubley, NS native Geoff LaMorre scored on the powerplay. The only assist on the play went to Mason Shadlock. The period ended 1-0.
Jacob Malloch scored at the 37-second mark of the second period to put the Islanders up by two. At 18:13 the Wolves answered back with a goal from 17-year-old Jordan Guiney. Eamon Duffy assisted.
During the third period the Wolves scored two more to finish off the Islanders. Eighteen-year-old Keiran Cardinal scored from Nicholas Polomark, while Cole Gardner netted the Wolves fourth of the game from Keegan Durrance.
Play became chippy during the third period with the referees handing out two game misconducts and three roughing penalties.
With the win, the Wolves maintain third place in the South Division and are now seven points up on the Islanders who have one game in-hand and sit in fourth position.
The Wolves own a 4-2-1 season series record over the Islanders and they look to continue that winning record and will have a chance against the division rivals in their next game at Kerry Park Arena on Saturday, Jan 7. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
