Over 3,500 exuberant fans watched as Team Canada went 2-1 on Saturday during the Canada Sevens women’s rugby tournament at Westhills Stadium. They will get to play Sunday in the quarter-finals, emerging from Pool C by the smallest of margins.
With less than 20 seconds remaining on the clock in Game 3, Canada stole the ball in their own end got the ball to Charity Williams, who ran the length of the field to get the try. Ghislaine Landry made the convert to capture a 19-17 win over Ireland.
The first-ranked Aussies took out Canada to start the day by the score of 22-7. Canada came back with a vengeance taking out Spain 24-10.
Canada opens Saturday’s action at 10:04 a.m. with a match against the US, who finished Saturday in second place in Pool B.

The Rio Olympics silver-medallist team from New Zealand, the Black Ferns, defeated bronze-medal-winning Canada in last year’s final at the Victoria tournament.
