The Greater Victoria Horseshoe Pitching Association (GVHPA or Victoria horseshoe club) located at Glanford Park at the corner of Glanford and Kenneth in Saanich is starting their 84th year, this spring.Starting in April they will be starting their summer horseshoe league. They are hoping to have 16 teams of 5 or 6 players each that compete once a week on Tue or Thurs evenings.
The club, according to member Tom Moffat “is looking for new players that want to have some fun socializing and getting a low cardio activity in at the same time. No experience is necessary as the league is handicapped so you play evenly against all levels of players.”
For that have yet to see the facilities, it is worth the drive to check it out. It is one of the rare gems Victoria has to offer – it is the biggest horseshoe club in Canada.
Children are welcome and can practice or play for no charge in the junior program.
The club is known to host tournaments on weekends and will be putting on a new promotional day May 12 called Horseshoe Mania.
For those interested in playing in the league contact co-ordinator Tom Moffat: firstname.lastname@example.org
“You are never too young or too old to play,” shared Moffat. “Our youngest member is six-years-old and our oldest is 93. Come out and play in the dirt like the old days when you were at a cabin or campsite. We truly do have a lot of fun.”
