At the end of a historically close pennant race that required an extra day, the Victoria HarbourCats have won the West Coast League’s North Division second half pennant.
The HarbourCats (29-25 overall) finished tied atop the North Division second half standings with the Bellingham Bells at 15-12 but won the tiebreaker with a better win percentage against divisional opponents in the second half.
The race came down to a makeup game between the Corvallis Knights and Wenatchee AppleSox on Monday, won by Corvallis, 12-1.
The pennant secures Victoria’s second consecutive playoff berth, setting up the WCL’s first all-Canadian playoff series in the first round against the Kelowna Falcons (28-26, 11-16 second half), winners of the North Division first half title.
Game one of the best-of-three first round is in Victoria on Tuesday, August 8 at 6:35 pm at Royal Athletic Park.
