Jim Swanson, Victoria HarbourCats

The Victoria HarbourCats have made a series of roster moves six weeks in advance of the West Coast League season, and are excited to announce a new partnership with a high profile local business for 2016 that will specifically benefit season ticket holders.

RHP CAM SCHNEIDER, Cal Poly, (Freshman), Concord, CA, 6-7/230

RHP GREG CASPER, South Dakota State, (Sophomore), Pocatello, ID, 6/170

OF MATT LAUTZ, UC Santa Barbara, (Freshman), Agoura Hills, CA, 6-1/175

LHP MATT MOSCA, Mesa CC, (Sophomore), Las Vegas, NV, 5-10/160

LHP JACK WOLGER, UC Berkeley, (Freshman commit), Folsom, CA, 6-4/195

Cam Schneider is an imposing presence on the mound, standing 6’7’’, 230 lb.  Schneider is a freshman at Cal Poly (NCAA Div. 1; Big West), where he is teammates with fellow HarbourCats Nick Meyer (C) and Austin Dondanville (RHP).  Schneider has pitched in eight games this spring, starting seven, with a 1-2 record and a 5.55 ERA.  In 24.1 innings, he has allowed 29 hits and 13 walks with 27 strikeouts.

Greg Casper is the closer at South Dakota State (NCAA Div. 1; Summit League) where he is a teammate of fellow HarbourCat Will McAffer (LHP).  Casper currently holds a 4.19 ERA and three saves in 12 appearances.  In 19.1 innings, he has allowed 19 hits and 10 walks while recording 22 strikeouts.

Matt Lautz is a talented young freshman at UC Santa Barbara (NCAA Div. 1; Big West) where he is a teammate of 2013 HarbourCat Joe Record (RHP).  A multi-talented player, Lautz is signed as a right-handed hitting outfielder but also has the ability to pitch if needed.

Matt Mosca is the staff ace at Mesa Community College in Arizona, and has committed to Dixie State (NCAA Div. 2) for this fall. Mesa has 27 playoff appearances in 32 seasons, including five JUCO World Series appearances and two titles.  Mosca has some of the best stats in all of junior college baseball, sporting a 7-2 record and 1.26 ERA in 64.1 innings pitched.  In 14 appearances, nine starts, Mosca has pitched two complete games and has allowed just 50 hits and 23 walks against 70 strikeouts.

Jack Wolger has committed to UC Berkeley (NCAA Div. 1; Pac-12) for this fall, and is currently dominating as a high school senior.  In seven starts this spring, Wolger is 5-2 with a 1.81 ERA and two complete games. He has allowed just 31 hits in 39 innings with 29 strikeouts against just nine walks.

An unavoidable factor in constructing a summer-collegiate baseball roster, is the fact that a number of players will drop off of the roster at any point in the year for a variety of reasons, be it personal or financial needs of the player, summer school, or the player being placed with another summer team by their college program.

Because of this, some players previously signed by the HarbourCats will not be reporting to Victoria this summer.  Most notable on that list are Michael Gretler and Alex Rogers, both were key players for the HarbourCats a year ago.

Gretler, a sophomore at Oregon State (NCAA Div. 1; Pac-12) signed to return as an infielder in 2016. During the fall however, Oregon State converted Gretler to a catcher, a position where the HarbourCats already had depth with four catchers, so it was in Michael’s best interest to play elsewhere this summer.

Alex Rogers, a junior at North Dakota State (NCAA Div. 1; Summit League) was key to the HarbourCats pitching staff each of the past two seasons, and was slated to return for a third, but he was placed in the Northwoods League by his NDSU coaches for 2016.

The HarbourCats are pleased to announce an exciting partnership with Golf Town Victoria which will include daily pre-game activities and a unique prizing opportunity made available exclusively to season ticket holders.

Golf Town will be the sponsor for nightly on-field pre-game activities before HarbourCats games at Royal Athletic Park, made available to season ticket holders throughout 2016. Activities will include various driving, chipping and putting games.  As part of the benefits for season ticket holders, Golf Town will present one season ticket holder with a set of Nike Vapor Fly 4-AW Irons with steel shafts, valued at $899.99

Additionally, $10 discount vouchers to Golf Town Victoria will be handed out to the first 5,000 fans to enter Royal Athletic Park on Opening Night, June 7.

The HarbourCats home opener is less than seven weeks away, June 7 at Royal Athletic Park against the Wenatchee AppleSox. The 2016 season opens with a three-game series in Walla Walla beginning June 3. More news and signings will be announced in the weeks leading up to the season.
