The Victoria Grizzlies bit back at the Alberni Valley Bulldogs Saturday night in Port Alberni, after losing to them the night before at The Q Centre in Colwood. Friday, the Bulldogs took a 5-3 win, Saturday; the Grizzlies won 2-1.

It was a goaltender’s dual, as the Bulldogs outshot the Grizzlies 46-39.

Jeremie Bucheler scored his second goal of the season at 9:21 of the first period for the Grizzlies. Lach Hadley and Riley Hughes earned assists on the play. The 6’4” rearguard from Saint-Laurent, QC scored the lone goal in regulation time for the visitors.

At 14:05 of the second Ryan Miotto scored his fourth of the season from Marcus Walter and Spencer Hora.

The third period would go scoreless. Victoria’s Alex Newhook scored his seventh of the season at 3:10 of overtime. Alexander Campbell and Nico Somerville earned assists on the play.

The powerplays would go 0/2 for both teams.

The Bulldogs took 19 shots during the second period.

Keenan Rancier earned the win in goal for the Grizzlies, while John Hawthorne manned the Bulldogs net. The Victoria-raised 18-year-old Rancier is credited with a 2-0 record.

The Grizzlies next play in Nanaimo on Wednesday. Pick drop is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

The Island Division-leading 9-5 Grizzlies next play at The Q Centre Saturday, Oct. 20 against the Powell River Kings.
