The University of Victoria Vikes women’s golf team finished in sixth place at the Western Washington Invitational tournament at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club in Bellingham, WA.
Fourth-year Vike Nicole Gargarella was the stand out golfer for Victoria, shooting a 72 (-1) in her opening round and ultimately finishing with a two-round score of 152 (+6). Gargarella’s team low score put her in a tie for third place overall in the individual standings after sitting in a tie for first place at the end of her opening round.
Quinn Fitzgerald jumped up 12 spots in the individual standings after shooting a final round score of 79 (+6), five strokes better then her opening round score of 84 (+11). Rhiannon Jones (164) was close behind Fitzgerald finishing in a tie for 37th, one stroke off from her teammate.
Rounding out the scores were first-year Sukriti Harjai (167) who finished in a tie for 45th, two strokes ahead of Melanie Murchison (169) who finished in a tie for 53rd.
The Vikes women’s golf team will be the hosts of their next event. The annual Vikes Shootout will take place at the Cordova Bay golf course in Victoria on Oct. 15-16.
