Former UVic Vike Grant Sitton turns pro in Slovakia

Former University of Victoria Vikes forward Grant Sitton has signed his first professional basketball contract with BC Prievidza in the Slovakian Extraliga (SBL), announced Slan Sports, his agency.

Sitton, a 6’9” forward, is coming off his final season playing for the Vikes in U Sports and the Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CanWest) conference. Last season, Sitton was the third leading scorer in CanWest and 11th leading scorer in U Sport, averaging 19.3 points per game. He also notched 6.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Sitton was named to the All-Canada West Third Team.

A Brush Prairie, Washington native, Sitton attended Prairie High School before heading to Clackamas Community College, and later transferring to the University of Victoria. In 2015-2016, Sitton averaged 14.4 points and 4.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 82.7% from the free throw line, 13th in CanWest. In 2014-15, Sitton helped lead the Vikes to the CanWest championship and the CIS Final 8 Tournament semifinals.

“Big thank you to my friends, family, and coaches for supporting me over my basketball career,” said Sitton. “I'm excited to play at the next level and to see what the future holds.”

Prievidza was third in SBL regular season play last season, before losing in the semifinals to the eventual champions, BK Inter Bratislava. In FIBA Europe Cup, Prievidza reached the second stage, where they finished fourth in their group.

“We are excited to add Grant to our club,” said Prievidza Head Coach, Ryan Pannone. “He is an athletic and skilled forward that can cause offensive mismatches for teams. He has the skills of a guard with the size of a forward and brings a unique versatility to our team.”
