Dave Proctor of Okotoks, Alberta, will attempt the cross-Canada record of 72 days and 10 hours set by ultra-running legend Al Howie in 1991. Proctor is planning to run 108K per day to make it 66 days in his sea-to-sea adventure.

He will be running from Victoria, BC to St. John’s Newfoundland and Labrador, some 7200K in total.

While he is attempting to break Howie’s Guinness-recognised benchmark, he is also raising money for a foundation called Rare Disease Foundation and has dubbed his trek as Out Run Rare.

His nine-year-old son suffers from a rare disease and will be along for the ride, in the Outrun Rare-branded RV.

Proctor expects to burn through 15 pairs of runners (Altra) and eat up to 10,000 calories per day.

Proctor currently holds at least three national records in multi-day races.
