Chargers women’s basketball split November 1 & 2 openers and jump to a #12 CCAA National Ranking

The Chargers women are 1-1 following the first week of PACWEST competition where they fell 75-54 to the VIU Mariners in Thursday’s home opener and rebounded to collect their first win of the season the following night against the Okanagan College Coyotes, 81-61. Following the split, the Chargers jump to a #12 CCAA National Ranking!

Third-year forward Jasmine de Vries (Bachelor of Sport Management) led the charge for Camosun posting her first double-double of the season in Friday’s victory over OC with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Fourth-year guard Tessa Lannon-Paakspuu (Bachelor of Sport & Fitness Leadership) also produced a double-double in the fight against the Coyotes contributing 13 points and 11 assists.

Rocky start for Chargers men’s basketball

It was a rocky start to the season for the Chargers men who were unable to register a mark in the win column in last week’s openers, falling 94-87 to the powerhouse VIU Mariners on Thursday and dropping Friday’s battle versus the Okanagan College Coyotes who capitalized on picking up their first win in their inaugural PACWEST appearance, 86-71.

Fourth-year forward Dallas Hancox (Bachelor of Sport & Fitness Leadership) generated his first double-double of the season in the Island Rivalry against the Mariners with 18 points and 10 rebounds while third-year guard Matthew Gray (UT) led the Chargers in Friday’s contest against the Coyotes with 20 points.
