The Campbell River Storm advance to the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League finals with a 6-2 win over the Westshore Wolves Sunday at The Q Centre.

It was a four-game sweep with wins of 4-0, 5-1, 8-1 and 6-2. The Wolves improved for the 2017-2018 season and finished second in the very competitive South Division, but the Storm proved to be at a whole new level.

They will take on the winner of the Nanaimo Buccaneers – Saanich Braves series which resumes Monday at Pearkes Arena.

Sunday, the Storm, determined to win outshot the Wolves 39-25, but interestingly went 0/7 on the powerplay. The Wolves managed to score once during their five man advantages.

Dawson Frank opened the scoring at 7:08 of the first.

Reid Wheeldon scored the game-winner at 1:29 of the second period.

The Wolves didn’t get on the board until 5:11 of the third period, down 5-0 at that point.

Liam Murphy stopped 21 of 23 shots, while Jordan Spandli stopped 33 of 39.

The Buccaneers have a 2-1 lead in the series over the Braves. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
