Shooting a two-day total of 618 at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) Invitational this past weekend, the Camosun Chargers Golf team has advanced to third overall as the PACWEST gears up for the Provincial Championships, October 5-7 at the Nanaimo Golf and Country Club.

“We’re happy that we accomplished our goal of finishing Top 3 after the three PACWEST season events,” states Chargers Head Coach Doug Hastie. “We didn’t have a great first round this weekend, but the guys played better on Sunday despite the constant rain and we managed to make our way up the cumulative team standings.”

At the top of the PACWEST standings with a team low of 1740 are the defending CCAA National Champion UFV Cascades, who have won all three of this season’s PACWEST tournaments. UBC-Okanagan is second with 1788 and Camosun is third with 1844.

“We definitely have not showed our best yet and look forward to the challenge of this weekend in Nanaimo where the three-round event will determine the two teams that qualify for Nationals,” comments Coach Hastie. “We have seen the course and it sets up well for us. Although we have not had any home course advantage this season, this will feel like a home game as we get to stay on the Island. From the reports we have, the greens will be bumpy having been recently aerated, so it will be crucial to hit the ball well and not put any pressure on the putter. The team looks forward to the challenge!”
