The Victoria Highlanders has announced the return of NCAA Division 1 standout and local player Callum Montgomery. The Victoria native will be a key addition to a growing squad in preparation for the 2018 Premier Development League (PDL) season.
Montgomery joins the Highlanders following another successful season with The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC). The SMUS, Highlanders academy and VI Wave soccer player has made a name for himself locally and south of the border earning multiple honours.
Following successful seasons with the Highlanders First Team, Montgomery was named the MVP for the 2016 season. The Victoria native was named Captain of UNCC for the 2017 season. Montgomery was named to the 2017 First Team All-Conference squad, First team All-State as well as being named three times in the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week.
“I’m extremely excited about the upcoming season. All the work that has gone into the program behind the scenes has been amazing with the new owners moving in,” Montgomery added, “The kits sponsorship looks fantastic and I’m looking forward to continuing to develop my skills under Thomas who has a very impressive resume and is well known throughout the soccer community.”
Montgomery returns to Victoria for his third successive season since plying his trade across the border. “It will be exciting to get the opportunity to play again in front of family, friends, and our great fans this year. I’m hoping that we can perform well and really become a team that the city can get behind during the season.”
Joining the pool of local talent in the squad, Montgomery commented on his development in Victoria, “I owe everything and everywhere that I have achieved today due to the Highlanders. Through high school, I came up through the VISL Wave HPL team before making the transition to the Victoria Highlanders prospects academy for my senior years to play under Steve Simonson.”
