The Saanich Braves defeated the Peninsula Panthers 4-0 at home on Saturday, September 5th. It was their second game of the season and their first win, having dropped their first game.

Both the Panthers and the Braves are 1-1 on the season, which means that they are in a tie for the lead in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League south.

The night before both team had opened the season against each other with a 4-3 with for the Panthers, it was a home-and-home, back-to-back series. Nick Kean, Cameron Kovesdi and rookie Drew Couglin scored for the Braves.

For Saturday’s game Riley Mathieson started in net, he stopped all 16 shots he faced.

Kovesdi led the way with two powerplay goals and assisted on Landon Walters’ first goal of the season. Jack Rachwalski also scored his first of the 2015-2016 campaign. All four goals came in the first two periods on Saturday, as the Braves held on for the shutout.

The Braves and the Westshore Wolves will tussle at The Q! Centre on Wednesday.
