Victoria race car driver Bill Okell had a successful weekend on the Monterey Peninsula, in Southern California.
Okell took the sprint race win on Saturday, then backed it up with a feature win on Sunday in the Nasport Lite division race at Mazda Raceway, Laguna Seca’s road course.
It was the first race of the season for Okell driving his own car, an MGB. He now heads back to the San Francisco bay area in three weeks for the next Nasport series race in the Napa Valley at Sonoma Raceway Park.
The next race could qualify him, with a solid finish for the Pacific Coast Road Racing Championship, in late October at Fontana, California’s Auto Club Speedway, which is located just northeast of Los Angeles.
For Okell, who has was initially invited to race in this series back in 2010, it is a good fit for his MGB and the big tracks like Laguna Seca and Sonoma Raceway and Thunderhill Raceway Park, near Sacramento, where good handling and lots of horsepower are needed to get around those hilly, up and down tracks.
