Victoria race car driver Bill Okell returns to his roots this weekend as he heads south to Laguna Seca Raceway Park on the Monterey Peninsula in Southern California for a pair of Sports Car Club of America Nasport series races. Okell will drive his own MGB race car in the series that he has been past Champion several times over. He also holds the track record at the 2.25-mile desert layout circuit located near Monterey, Carmel, and Pebble Beach.
This is his first race of the year in the series as he has been focusing his effort on the SCCA’s Western Conference, US Majors Touring circuit, driving the Austin Healey for Huffaker Engineering.
Okell first raced in the Nasport Lite Series back in 2010 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and set the track record during that race weekend. Other race circuits include Sears Point, Sonoma, California along with Thunderhill Raceway Park, near Willows, California. NASPORT has been around a long time and was started back in the 80’s with the hope of generating interest in a lower style of Trans-Am style of road racing. The SCCA’s Pacific Coast Road Racing Championships, held each year in late October, including the NASPORT series in their line-up of racing west coast championships. Okell has won this title, the last two seasons.
