It was a solid weekend for Victoria race car driver Bill Okell who took second and third place finishes in a pair Sports Car Club of America,{SCCA}, U.S. Majors Tour, Western Conference season-opening races at US Auto Club Speedway, near Los Angeles California.

Okell, who drives for San Francisco based Huffaker Engineering, raced their Austin Healey MK I  in the GT-Lite races on the long 2.6-mile, 17-turn, road course and high banked oval at the 65,000 seat, NASCAR-owned track. It was a good start to a year that Okell looks forward to qualifying for the SCCA National Championships, which will be held here, on the west coast, the first time since 2014  when they were at Monterey, California’s Laguna Seca. The SCCA  Run-Offs, as they are called will be held over 12 days in late October, at Sonoma Raceway, just 30 miles (50km) north of San Francisco, and the home base for Huffaker Engineering, the team that Okell has been racing for when contract talks began at the end of 2013.

Huffaker Engineering has provided both MG Midgets and Austin Healey MK I race cars for Bill Okell,  over the last four seasons, in which he has won three SCCA U.S. Majors Tour races, one track record at Bakersfield’s Button Willow Raceway Park and is the 2017 Western Conference GTL Champion, all with Huffaker Engineered team cars and equipment. Bill Okell has set goals this year to qualify the Austin Healey MK I in both the GTL and the F-Production Sports Car National Championship races.

His next race will be back in California in late April in Bakersfield at Button Willow Raceway Park for another pair of U.S. Majors Tour races. This will be familiar territory for him as he is the current track record holder and has logged good finishes with two U.S. Majors Tour wins at the California Sports Car Club owned facility.
