Human Powered Racing
XTERRA Victoria is in its fifth year as part of the XTERRA World Tour. The race, which takes place on July 10th at Durrance Lake in Saanich, already attracts a high quality field of athletes. Previous winners include local professional triathletes Brent McMahon and Melanie McQuaid. With its inclusion in the Pan-American Race Series Human Power Racing expect top pro and age-group athletes from the Americas and from around the world to come to Victoria to take on the challenging racecourse, which is considered to be one of the most challenging courses on the XTERRA World Tour.
When told that Victoria would be a part of the Pan-American Race Series, McMahon, a two-time Olympian and Ironman Champion said, "It's very exciting to hear that XTERRA Victoria will be included in the XTERRA Pan American series. The series will be highlighting some of the best destinations for mountain biking and triathlon and I think Victoria will be one of the best locales on this tour. This event will draw some of the best athletes in the world in their bid for World Championship qualification and series ranking. You can expect a great field and a challenging and fun course come July. I can't wait to race again and defend my title from last year.”
Melanie McQuaid, three-time XTERRA world champion, commented, "The Victoria XTERRA is presented at a world class venue. The city is home to the National Mountain Bike centre along with national sport centres for running and triathlon. A long list of world class athletes from triathlon, mountain biking, road cycling and running call Victoria home. I am excited for the global XTERRA community to visit the greatest endurance city in Canada and see our beautiful trails and lakes while enjoying the incredible restaurants and hospitality Victoria has to offer."
With its inclusion in the Pan-American Race Series XTERRA Victoria will afford the opportunity for local athletes to compete against the best in the world at Off Road Triathlon. With $7500 US prize money available to pros and series points up for grabs we expect the field to be very high calibre. It will also afford volunteer opportunities for local sports enthusiasts to be involved in this World Class event.
The XTERRA Victoria race venue showcases the beauty of Vancouver Island and the amazing off road cycling and running opportunities located here.
Fifth year race director Monique Moore states, “As race director I am very excited to welcome athletes to XTERRA Victoria 2016, an international event that maintains it's community vibe. You can't beat the beauty of Vancouver Island or the challenge of our west coast trails. Come and race some of off road triathlon's finest athletes on July 10, 2016.”
