Island runners don’t have to wait any longer to register for the Vancouver Island Race Series – registration went live today. The popular event – celebrating 36 years in 2017 features eight races, run every two weeks from January to April, with distances ranging from 5-kilometres to a half marathon. The series kicks off on the second Sunday in January with the Harriers Pioneer 8K. This is followed by Cobble Hill 10K, Sooke 10K, Hatley Castle 8K, Synergy Health Management Ltd Bazan Bay 5K, Comox Valley RV Half Marathon, Port Alberni Paper Chase 10K and Cedar 12K. The series has a very strong following amongst Island runners and Vancouver’s Lower Mainland, attracting recreational runners and elites.
The concept behind the series is that runners accumulate points in each race, and the final standings (overall and for age category prizes) are the average of the best five results, with at least one race being over 10K in length. Running clubs can also accumulate points in a bid to win the overall series.
“We attract runners of all abilities – our tag line is Run Series – Fun Series – to emphasize that we are a series of races for everyone, whether they are an elite, chasing a PB or just want to run with friends while exploring the island,” says Louise Hodgson-Jones, General Manager.
Early bird pricing is available until December 1.
