Ryan Cochrane wins gold in U.S. Pro Swim Series

Victoria’s Ryan Cochrane won the men’s 1500-metre freestyle event in the time of 15:09.97 in Santa Clara Sunday at the U.S. Pro Swim Series meet.

Cochrane will be competing in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The 27-year-old currently owns national freestyle records in the distances of 400m with his best performance of 3:44.85, 800m in 7:41.86 and 1500m 14:39.63.

Cochrane earned a bronze medal during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and silver in the 2012 London Games, both in the 1500m freestyle.

He is also the reigning double gold medallist from the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships.
